Childhood Binge: The Last Unicorn

I love reading and writing about mythological creatures on Fridays. Well today, I am going back to my childhood and pulling out one of my favorite movies I watched over and over, The Last Unicorn.

The Last Unicorn was released in 1982 as an animated film starring Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, and a host of other supporting actors and actresses. The film follows a young unicorn who learns she is in danger and soon will be the last of her kind.

She lives in a protected forest but decides to leave so that she may face King Haggard who is responsible for driving unicorns into extinction. Along the way, she enlists the help of Schmendrick, a clumsy sorcerer.

Though the visuals were not all that great, the vocal performances and script were above average. Some would argue the visuals and some of the inferences were not all that kid-friendly, but I was a different type of kid so I loved it.

If you like magic, adventure, and mythological creatures, check out The Last Unicorn!
